Bollywood Night on the Roof
The dance numbers were stylin', the plotlines were ridiculous and the movie went on and on and on. All in all, a pretty cool way to spend a hot summer night.

Trumpet, Firetruck and Stilts
Outtake from an assignment for Portland Monthly Magazine.

I had the opportunity to photograph the joyfully chaotic MarchFourth Marching Band. Over 30 musicians, dancers, & stiltwalkers make up the band, dressed in an amazing array of carnival colors and shiny brass & chrome. The pick will run as a double page spread in the August issue of the mag., and the cover is a shot of the lovely Ashley on bass drum.

Boots.
A shot like this makes me nostalgic for the days of ektachrome cross processed +1, and printed on Fuji Crystal Archive. This was not done that way at all. Photographers fall into 3 traps: 1 - they get nostalgic about their 'old days' and forget that most of what they loved about film was actually defects or accidents that the engineers at Kodak & Fuji worked hard at eliminating. 2 - they get all googly-eyed about all the cool things they can do with photoshop and don't exercise restraint, resulting in a population of franken-photos. 3 - they get so bent at not being 1 and not being 2 that they forget to explore and play with their new tools, and declare that they don't manipulate their digital photos at all and only use them the way they were shot. Accepting the digital default is the same behaviour as defending the defects...

more rambling later...
